Professional Development Schools

The Professional Development Schools Program (PDSP) supports the Bridge to Excellence Master Plan by promoting staff excellence and student achievement.

PDSP provides quality preparation for interns and professional development to staff. The program aligns with Maryland's Redesign of Teacher Education.

In the PDS model, schools, school systems, and colleges and universities form partnerships to:

  • Enhance instruction and support for student achievement by fully including interns in the school community.
  • Target professional development for current staff, which is aligned with school improvement plans.
  • Provide a pool of highly qualified teacher candidates for the school system.

College and University Partners

In addition to interns, PDSP also:

  • Places student teachers in the related arts and academic specialists from various Maryland colleges and universities.
  • Places Howard Community College education students.
  • Supports the Future Educators of America (FEA) in HCPSS high schools.
